COMPARISON

GTAFPV vs Liftoff

Liftoff is where most pilots learned, and it is the product this server is most often compared to. The comparison is a little unfair in both directions, because they are not the same kind of thing. Liftoff is a simulator: it exists so you can practise. This is a place: it exists so you can go somewhere. Most pilots who fly here keep Liftoff installed, and that is the correct arrangement rather than a compromise.

WHAT WE HAVE

Things a simulator structurally cannot do

A whole living city, not a map

Every simulator ships hand-built arenas — a warehouse, a bando, a gate layout. However good they are, you learn them. This is Los Santos and Blaine County entire: freeway undersides, flood channels, a downtown of real towers, mountains, docks, a working airport. With live traffic, pedestrians, weather and a day-night cycle, because it is built on a game that already simulates a city. The most interesting gap here is one nobody designed.

The world is doing something, and none of it is AI

A drift meet trading the same corner under coloured neon, jet skis running the coast, stunt planes making passes over the airport. Every one is a recording of a run a person actually flew or drove, replayed on a clock every client shares — so it moves the way a person moves, because a person moved it. They are solid, too: misjudge a gap and you wreck.

Scoring that rewards FPV craft, not lap time

A simulator can time you round a known line. It cannot score you for how close you dared to fly, because there is nothing there to be close to. The flow chain builds on proximity, speed and commitment together, multiplying up to ten times and breaking the instant you touch anything — and it names what you did as you do it, across fourteen tracked skills.

Other people, and a reason to care

Parties with chat, server-authoritative leaderboards so a record is a fact rather than a claim, and seasons on a free track. Flying is better watched, and filming is much better with a subject.

WHERE LIFTOFF WINS

Things we are not going to pretend about

Flight fidelity and muscle-memory transfer

They are right and we do not compete. GTAFPV is arcade by design — tuned to feel good in a city, not to rehearse your quad. Each airframe has its own thrust-to-weight and drag set against measurable references, so it is tuned rather than default, but it is not a training tool and we will not pretend otherwise. If you are practising for a race, practise there.

Map variety, through the community

Liftoff has a workshop and years of community maps behind it, which is a genuinely enormous library. We have one city. It is a whole city and it changes with weather and time of day, but it is one.

Runs on a laptop, offline, anywhere

A simulator needs nothing but itself. We need your own copy of GTA V, the FiveM Enhanced client and a connection to a server. That is a real cost and it is the reason to keep a simulator installed alongside this.

So which one should you use?

If you are building muscle memory for real flying, or you want a new map every week, Liftoff is the better tool and it is not close. Come here for the other thing: somewhere worth flying, with things happening in it and people to fly with.

Claims about Liftoff on this page describe what the product is and what it is best at, last checked 2026-07-30. We deliberately do not publish their pricing or feature lists here, because those change without telling us. If something on this page is out of date or unfair, tell us and it gets corrected.

OTHER COMPARISONS

Try it against whatever you already fly

Two minutes on the trainer is a fair test and we are happy to be judged on it. It is free, nothing is locked, and most pilots here keep a simulator installed as well.
